"Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning" is set for a worldwide cinematic release on October 28th, distributed by Trafalgar Releasing and Mercury Studios. This film documents the final performances of Ozzy Osbourne alongside the original lineup of Black Sabbath, captured just 17 days before Ozzy's passing at age 76. The concert, which took place on July 5, 2025, at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, also featured a lineup of prominent metal and hard rock bands, including Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Slayer, Pantera, and Tool.
Tickets for the film's showings will be available starting September 24th at 10 a.m. EST through the film's official website, ahead of its limited theatrical run.
Sharon Osbourne shared insights about the film's inception, stating, "'Back to the Beginning' came about because I asked Ozzy what would really make him happy. And he said the only thing that would make him happy was if he could perform again and say goodbye to his fans. That’s all he wanted to do. He wanted to say goodbye and thank you."
A Historic Moment in Rock History
Musical director Tom Morello expressed the uniqueness of the event, noting, "There’s never been anything like that that’s happened in the history of rock and roll. There’s never been a precedent for a show like this…[Black Sabbath] gets to play their final show basically in the Ground Zero of where they created heavy metal."
Moving forward two steps
The film promises to deliver an immersive experience, presented in Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound, engineered to enhance the audio-visual impact for viewers. Critics and fans alike have received "Back to the Beginning" with universal acclaim, with the three surviving members of Black Sabbath describing it as a necessary closure. The film is viewed as a tribute to the four men who pioneered the heavy metal genre, featuring all-star jams, a drum-off, and notable performances from bands such as Mastodon, Pantera, Tool, Alice in Chains, and Metallica.
Ken Danquah and Andrea Dunn, co-leads of Mercury Studios, emphasized the significance of Ozzy Osbourne in music history, stating, "Ozzy Osbourne is one of the most influential figures in music history, and his final performance with Black Sabbath deserves to be seen on the biggest possible stage. Last year, we brought this legendary concert to fans across the globe, offering millions the chance to be there through an unprecedented livestream. This film is the next chapter, giving fans a new way to experience that night on the big screen. Back to the Beginning captures the scale of a stadium performance and the intimacy of a farewell, crafted specifically for the cinema screen."
